A confined space is a totally or partially enclosed area that can become hazardous to a worker for a variety of reasons, including atmospheric hazards, biological hazards, and the inherent characteristics of a particular workplace activity. Proper planning and strict adherence to confined-space rescue procedures will reduce the risk of accidents and keep workers safe. Confined-space training teaches your employees about the chemical, mechanical and biological hazards that can be found in confined spaces, depending on the ventilation and respiratory consequences of the situation. The training also covers safety procedures and techniques in the event of incidents such as a gas leak.

Learning objectives

To understand the definition of a confined space
To identify hazards present ii confined spaces and implement preventive measures
To control the working environment before and during operations
To monitor operations and develop a confined-space entry and rescue procedure
Following theoretical and practical training, each participant who passes the exams will receive a training certificate and a competency card.

Legal obligation

Under the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety, “only workers who have the knowledge, training or experience required to perform work in a confined space are authorized to perform work there.” (art. 298).
