Spring is back and in a few weeks the Quebec waters will be ready for sailing after a hard winter. The proper launching and preparation of your boat will ensure a safe and enjoyable season on the water.
Preparing for the Upcoming Boating Season
Every year, you prepare thoroughly so that you don't forget any details, whether it's the flotation jacket for guests or the plug for the rowboat.
To ensure a smooth sailing season, go through your checklist carefully to make sure all your equipment is still in good condition and compliant with regulations, and have your engine checked by a professional mechanic to make sure everything is in working order.
Is your Boat Adequately Protected?
One of the most important steps is to verify your boat insurance coverage. It is always a good idea to check if all your coverages are effective and to inform your broker of any changes, as this could affect your premium or even your compensation in case of a claim. So, whether you change marina, decide to go outside the territorial limits of navigation (often between the 40th and 50th parallels) or exceed the permitted navigation period (from April 1 to November 30), it is always preferable to inform your insurer.
Make copies of your boat insurance policy to keep in your boat and if possible an electronic copy that you will keep in your cell phone, tablet or other computer that accompanies you at all times.
You are now ready to cast away!
